OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 2 Oklahoma (51-7) will face off against No. 6 Texas (52-11) in round two of the Women’s College World Series on Saturday at Devon Park.

The last time the two programs met in a WCWS setting was in last year’s championship series, where OU swept Texas in two games (8-3, 8-4) to claim its eighth total and fourth consecutive national championship, becoming the first NCAA softball program in history to complete the four-peat.

Now with a five-peat in sight, the Sooners and Longhorns face off in a second-round matchup to see who will advance into the winners bracket, and who will be taking the long road in the losers bracket.

OU is coming off a nail-biting 4-3 win against No. 7 Tennessee in Thursday’s opening day game. The win was highlighted by a clutch defensive finish and capitalized with a two-out, three-run walk-off homer from sophomore utility player Ella Parker.

Texas took down No. 3 Florida 3-0 thanks to a seven-inning shutout by right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan.

OU and Texas are familiar with the sights of Devon Park, and even more familiar with each other after facing off in the Big 12 and now the SEC.

During the regular season, OU and Texas met at Love’s Field for the programs’ first meeting in the SEC. The Sooners made easy work of the Longhorns taking three games (7-6, 7-2, 9-8) in the only three-game sweep Texas suffered all season.

Kavan pitched in games one and two of the regular season series, giving up 14 runs and 12 hits in just 4.1 innings of work in Norman.

Parker, on the other hand, had a good performance in the series, going 5-for-11 with a .388 batting average, including two homers in the Sooners’ regular season home finale.

OU will look to replicate the success it had at Love’s Field against Texas earlier in the year at Devon Park. On the season, OU is 8-0 when playing at neutral sites, while Texas is 12-2.

With both teams playing up to postseason form, round two is set up for another classic Red River Rivalry showdown in Oklahoma City.

The second-round game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Devon Park, featuring a rematch of the 2024 WCWS championship, which will air on ABC.
