Norman High School (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season against Jenks High School (2-3) on Friday at Allan Trimble Stadium.

Despite the 31-12 loss, the connection between Norman senior quarterback Phoenix Murphy and junior wide receiver Ryder Murphy still proved to be effective, with the pair being the lone scorers for the team.

Troubling Norman’s defense, Jenks junior running back KD Jones, who holds offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon and others, and senior wide receiver Kayleb Barnett finished with two touchdowns each.

In the first quarter, Jenks senior quarterback Owen Jones found Barnett wide open in the middle for a 26-yard touchdown with 4:53 left.

In the second quarter, extending the lead, Jenks senior kicker Noah Carter made a 30-yard field goal with 11:13 before halftime. Owen Jones connected with Barnett again for a 77-yard receiving touchdown with 5:04 left. With about 42 seconds remaining in the first half, KD Jones broke several tackles and rushed into the end zone for a three-yard touchdown, giving Jenks a 24-0 halftime lead.

Starting off the second half, Phoenix Murphy scored an 11-yard rushing touchdown with 3:50 remaining in the third. Finding the end zone yet again for Jenks, KD Jones showcased his speed on another touchdown with 8:02 to play in the fourth quarter. Ryder Murphy cut into the lead and completed a contested catch for a touchdown with 4:52 remaining in the final quarter.

Next, Norman will play Enid High School at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Harve Collins Stadium.
