Even with media pivoting to a digital format, Matt Price, Speeding Bullet Comics co-owner and OU alum, believes there will always be a place for comics.
“I think digital is a great way to sample stuff, but I think people always want to have a bookshelf full of stuff they enjoy,” Price said. “They want to interact with the smell and the feel of the paper and just have a more personal experience with it.”

Over the last 27 years, Speeding Bullet Comics has made it its mission to serve the Norman community by bringing art and literacy to people. The store sells a selection of comics, action figures, toys and collectibles appealing to all ages and demographics.
Comic books remain an expression of art and culture for artists, writers and readers everywhere, according to Price. The store has seen a wide range of customers and artists over the years, from college students to local families.
“We try to have a mix available for anybody who’s into reading,” Price said. “We’re here to promote a love of art, reading and to try to share literacy with people. It’s crazy that when we started, there were only a handful of graphic novels in print. Now there are thousands.”
In October, Speeding Bullet will host its annual Kraken sale, which will feature a large selection of half-price graphic novels.
“The sale will be pretty heavy on graphic novels,” Price said. “We’re pretty heavy on reading material between book format comics and monthly periodical comics. We even have some back issues dating back to the 1940s.”
On Dec. 17, Price will launch his very own comic book, “Team America Racing,” in the 2,000th edition of Comic Shop News, a national publication that publishes weekly in comic stores across the country.
