Severe thunderstorms and a tornado passed through Norman and OU campus Tuesday evening, causing dangerous flooding throughout the city.
The National Weather Service issued its first tornado warning at 5:03 p.m. for Norman, Newcastle and Moore. The NWS reported the first confirmed tornado heading toward 36th Avenue NW and West Main Street at 5:07 p.m.
According to KOCO-5, the EF-1 twister began just south of Newcastle and north of Riverwind Casino. The tornado moved east toward Interstate 25 and into west Norman before dispersing.
As of June 6, no damages have been reported.
The tornado threat subsided around 5:25 p.m., but a tornado warning remained in place until 5:45 p.m.
At one point, 22 tornado warnings were issued across the Oklahoma City metro area, with two confirmed tornadoes.
The severe storms produced heavy rainfall, leaving significant flooding across Norman and OU campus. The intersection at Lindsey Street and Elm Avenue was blocked by police due to significant flooding.
