Popular Campus Corner restaurant Cafe Plaid closes its doors

Cafe Plaid Closes

Cafe Plaid located on Campus Corner closed its doors for good Thursday, June 4, 2015. The restaurant said it has no plans to reopen.

Campus Corner restaurant Cafe Plaid has closed and has no plans to reopen in the future, according to its owner.

Kevin Brown placed a sign on the door of the restaurant indicating its closure Thursday.

“Today is the day for people to find out,” Brown said.  “At this point in time, it’s closed unless a new buyer comes in.”

Cafe Plaid has served students with organic coffees, pastries and desserts in an environment-friendly atmosphere for several years.

Although the closed sign was posted on Thursday, Brown said that the restaurant's sales have been down for the past six months.

He said it has been a down year for the restaurant, and since the summer months always lack a steady influx of customers, Cafe Plaid’s financial backers have decided not to pump anymore money into it.

“It’s a shock to me, too,” Brown said.  “I would like to see it come back.”

Brown said he did not know when the closure will be final and does not know what will happen next for the restaurant.
