OU announced the new dean of the College of Law, pending Board of Regents approval, on Thursday.
According to an OU press release, Anna Carpenter, a law professor and special adviser to the president at the University of Utah, will begin in the position on July 15.
On Oct. 9, Katheleen Guzman, the former dean, announced she would step down from the position at the end of the academic year. The Board of Regents approved a search committee to find her successor in November.
Carpenter will be the college’s 14th dean, according to the release.
At the University of Utah, Carpenter launched a “first-in-the-nation” program that leverages pay-for-success financing to scale social interventions and developed a program to increase college affordability and community service by blending service requirements with scholarships and wages for undergraduate students.
Carpenter was also a clinical programs director and the founder and director of Justice Lab, a semester-long course where students can work with community organizations to solve legal and policy problems and advocate for systemic change.
Before joining the University of Utah, Carpenter worked as an associate clinical law professor at the University of Tulsa. She was also a clinical teaching fellow and a women's law and public policy fellow at Georgetown University Law Center.
Carpenter has received the inaugural Alli Gerkman Legal Visionary Award from the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System and the Stephen Ellmann Memorial Clinical Scholarship Award. She was also named a Bellow Scholar by an Association of American Law Schools committee.
OU has been searching for candidates to fill multiple dean roles. Last month, Andrea Miller was named the new dean of Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
On Wednesday, OU announced John Antonio as the new dean of Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy after serving as an interim dean since Jan. 1 last year.
Currently, there are three interim or acting deans out of 16.
