The Campus Corner Starbucks will close Saturday as part of nationwide store closures, the store’s manager confirmed to OU Daily Friday.
Starbucks CEO and Chair Brian Niccol wrote in a press release Thursday that the company would close 1% of its stores in North America over the next fiscal year as part of a $1 billion restructuring plan. The closures include the layoff of approximately 900 corporate employees, the release reports.
The manager at the Starbucks Campus Corner location said the store was notified about the closures on Thursday. Management is working on sending affected staffers to work at other locations in Norman, according to the manager.
“I know these decisions impact our partners and their families, and we did not make them lightly,” Niccol wrote in the release. “I believe these steps are necessary to build a better, stronger, and more resilient Starbucks that deepens its impact on the world and creates more opportunities for our partners, suppliers, and the communities we serve.”
The release states that Starbucks aims to end the fiscal year with nearly 18,300 total locations across the U.S. and Canada. As of June, there were 18,734 Starbucks stores in North America, according to a fiscal year 2025 store count.
The press release did not include a list of locations that will be closing.
There are nine Starbucks in Norman, including the Campus Corner location. OU Daily reached out to all remaining locations to confirm if they were closing. The locations at Lindsey Street, Main Street, 1601 24th Ave., West Robinson, Flood Avenue and the Oklahoma Memorial Union confirmed they will continue operations.
The Classen Boulevard location did not confirm if it would remain open and directed OU Daily to a corporate media contact. OU Daily was unable to reach management at the 1400 24th Ave. NW location by the time of publication.
