Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin releases statement following passage of medical marijuana state question

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin released a statement saying her office will work to properly regulate medical marijuana after the passage of State Question 788.

The measure, which passed June 26, will allow licensed medical professionals to prescribe marijuana to those who need it for medical reasons. Fallin said it was the responsibility of state leaders to "look out for the health and safety" of Oklahomans and that she respected the will of the voters. 

"As I mentioned in previous public comments, I believe, as well as many Oklahomans, this new law is written so loosely that it opens the door for basically recreational marijuana," Fallin said in the statement. 

Fallin said she will be working with the state legislature to provide a regulatory framework for the measure.
