The city of Norman will be moving forward with two projects in Ward 4, a restaurant to be built by a private contractor on Porter Avenue and a proposal request to build a sidewalk on West Boyd Street.

Edo LLC, registered in 2021, plans to develop a restaurant at 101 S. Porter Ave. and held a predevelopment discussion on Thursday with property owners in the area.

EDO purchased the lot in 2021. The lot’s previous vendor, Ole Town Gyros & Kabob, closed in 2023 after over 30 years due to rising operating costs, according to a post by the restaurant on Facebook.

Additionally, the city is seeking consulting engineering services to build a new sidewalk on the south side of West Boyd Street between South Berry Road and South Flood Avenue. The request for proposal includes renovating handicap ramps and building a pedestrian bridge over Imhoff Creek.

The project was approved at a council meeting in August and will use grant funding from the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments Transportation Alternatives Program.

The city will hold a preproposal conference for prospective firms at 11 a.m. April 9. The proposals are due by 4 p.m. April 18.

Once proposals are in, the city will form an evaluation committee to score them and select the highest-ranked firm. According to the request, scoring criteria include level of experience and approach to the project, with extra points awarded for being a Norman- or Oklahoma-based firm.

The city will select a firm by May 9 and will begin contract negotiations.
