Norman Public Schools announced it will be adding two minutes to the school day and two instructional days to the calendar to meet state requirements following cancellations related to a multi-day winter weather event.

In a post made to Instagram and Facebook Wednesday, the district wrote that the decision was made after the district used all built-in snow days during the recent winter storm.

Beginning Feb. 16 school start times will be a minute earlier and dismissal will be a minute later. In addition, Feb. 16 will shift from a President's Day holiday to an instructional day along with April 16, originally a professional development day.

NPS designated two snow days on the 2025-26 calendar, with make-up dates set for Feb. 16 and March 13. Last week, NPS canceled four days of classes for severe winter weather.

NPS plans to shift to remote learning for any future weather cancellations.

OU Daily reached out to NPS Board of Education President Dirk O’Hara and Vice President Alex Ruggiers but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
