The city of Norman filed a lawsuit against three parties for breach of contract following mold mishandling during the construction of Norman Public Library Central.
On Tuesday, Norman City Council adjourned into an executive session to discuss the potential for litigation in regards to construction of the library.
The city filed a lawsuit Wednesday in the Cleveland County District Court against the contractors responsible for building the library, including Flintco, Meyer, Scherer and Rockcastle Ltd. and ADG.
Norman Public Library Central closed due to traces of mold discovered during an inspection into water leakage by Cavins Construction Group in November. It was later announced the library would be closed for an additional five months while Cavins Group serviced the facility.
In April, the city declared the library would close indefinitely due to the extensive repairs required after heavy rainfall worsened the preexisting mold.
In September, Cavins Group inspected the building for mold and discovered Paecilomyces spores, a fungus that can cause serious infection in humans. Cavins Group suggested a professional mold remediation company to further address the infestation.
OU Daily reached out to Tiffany Vrska, the Norman chief communications officer, who wrote in an email that the city does not comment on ongoing litigation.
