The Norman Public Schools Board of Education approved a virtual mental health navigation service for students and families, a consulting agreement for Dimensions Academy and the use of Senate Bill 783 on Monday.
Lucyann Harjo presented awards to students from Alcott Middle School and Norman High School for their placements in the Oklahoma Indian Challenge Bowl, where schools across the state compete over knowledge of the state’s 39 recognized tribes. Alcott placed first in its division and Norman High placed second.
“They were very competitive and they just did a great job,” Harjo said.
The board approved an agreement with Care Solace, Inc. Services for a virtual navigation system to direct students and families to mental health treatment.
NPS Superintendent Nick Migliorino said the holiday season can be a stressful time for some students and staff members.
“Not all of them get to go home to someone waiting on them,” Migliorino said. “Sometimes our school houses are the places where all their connections are.”
The board approved an agreement with the Triumph Team, LLC Consulting and Facilitation Services — a Norman-based development firm — for NPS’ Dimensions Academy.
The board approved a contract between NPS and Nabholz Construction for construction management services.
The board approved an agreement with Waggoners Heat & Air Inc. for a heating, ventilation and air conditioning replacement project in Alcott, Whittier Middle School, Irving Middle School and Norman North High School.
The board approved the use of Senate Bill 783, which requires the board to approve each school’s grade level capacity prior to the first day of January, April, July and October of each school year. The bill also states that a student can transfer two times per school year to any public school district, so long as that district does not exceed its transfer capacity.
