Cafe Plaid

Cafe Plaid located on Campus Corner closed its doors for good Thursday, June 4, 2015. The restaurant said it has no plans to reopen.

The area of Campus Corner that housed the beloved Cafe Plaid will reopen in mid-August — but as an Italian restaurant whose name is currently unknown, according to Erin Patton of the Campus Corner Merchants Association.

Patton said she is unaware of any more details other than that the restaurant's owners also own La Baguette, a French bakery on Main Street in Norman.

We will update this story when more information becomes available.

UPDATE (July 30, 5:20 p.m.) — Patton said Thursday afternoon the restaurant replacing Cafe Plaid will be called Meatball House.

The restaurant will serve different types of meatballs, salads and other items based on restaurant styles in New York City and other big cities, according to Patton.

"They're very excited to bring this to Norman," she said.

The Italian eatery will also feature a 20-foot bar at which mixologists will create custom cocktails, Patton said. The tentative opening date for the restaurant is Sept. 1.
