Oklahoma City restaurant offers meals perfect for chilly weather

The Mule's "Macaroni Pony" and fries

The Mule's "Macaroni Pony" is made with jalapeno cornbread, chipotle barbecue pulled pork, three-cheese macaroni and cheese and pickles, according to their menu. It is served here with a side of fries and ranch.

With a cold front hitting Norman, I’ve been thinking about my favorite things to eat during chilly weather. To me there’s nothing better than a warm grilled cheese and a cup of soup to warm me up and hit the spot during this time of year.

The Mule in Oklahoma City is known for their “hot melts,” or fancy grilled cheese sandwiches, and cold beer, according to their website. Whenever I’m craving two pieces of crispy, buttery bread stuffed with fatty ingredients, I visit The Mule.

My favorite sandwich they serve is the “F.Y.D.H.,” which is made of “sourdough, avocado, goat cheese, pepperoncino cheese, bacon, spicy aioli (and an) egg over easy,” according to their menu.

If you don’t like meat between your bread, the “Big Ass Grilled Cheese” is solely a cheesy overload (with the option to add bacon). This sandwich pairs perfectly with a side of tomato soup. The Mule’s other sides  including dejour soup, fries, onion rings or a side salad  are great options, too.

One of my favorite menu items isn’t even a sandwich. Have you ever heard of deep-fried cheese curds? If you have never experienced the goodness of these saturated fat bites, you are missing out. The Mule’s “Fried Cheese Curds” are made with Watonga cheese curds that are beer-battered and fried, according to their menu. They are served with a side of marinara and ranch. Don’t let the term “curd” scare you off. There’s truly no better combo than “fried” and “cheese."
