PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Individual Artists of Oklahoma's first annal juried show to feature diverse media

The Individual Artists of Oklahoma's first annual juried show is tomorrow. The gallery will only exhibit works by Oklahoman artists.

Individual Artists of Oklahoma will put on the exhibition starting Jan. 20 with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The inaugural-themed show will run until Feb. 11. 

Three established artists with their own unique styles were selected to be the jurors. The jurors were responsible for picking over 50 works from the hundreds of submissions IAO received, said Laurence Reese, IAO director. Therefore, the works selected will vary depending on each juror's taste and standards, Reese said.

McKinney

The piece entitled "McKinney" was created by an IAO artist. The Individual Artists of Oklahoma's first annual juried show will be from Jan. 20 to Feb. 11.

“(The jurors) selected works that they thought were quality submissions and quality works that represented the whole of art being made in Oklahoma and what they thought was good according to their own perspective," Reese said.

The selected media ranges from printmaking to sculpture to ceramics to video art to paintings and more, Reese said. 

Lorenzo Frank Pot

The "Lorenzo Frank Pot" is a piece created by an IAO artist. The Individual Artists of Oklahoma's first annual juried show will be from Jan. 20 to Feb. 11.

Lauren Bumgarner, film and media studies senior, and Katelynn Noel Knick, OU alumnus and OU School of Visual Art staff assistant, have works in the show, Reese said. 

IAO's gallery is located on 706 W. Sheridan Ave. in Oklahoma City. The IAO regular gallery hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and by appointment Thursday. For more information on the show visit the Individual Artists of Oklahoma's website.
