Freeform's '25 Days of Christmas' to include non-Christmas movies, claymation classics

Now that our bellies are stuffed with turkey and our wallets are empty from Black Friday shopping — and what's left of Cyber Monday — we can count down the days until Freeform's — formerly ABC Family — "25 Days of Christmas" movie marathon. 

2016 is the 20th consecutive year Freeform has hosted "25 Days of Christmas," a movie marathon that streams Christmas movies and holiday specials nonstop from Dec. 1 through Dec. 25, according to Freeform. 

Here are seven highlights to look for during the event.

1: "Elf" will be shown a total of 12 times

Mark your calendars for Dec. 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24 and 25, because everyone's favorite curly-haired, yellow tights-wearing elf will be on television nearly every night. 

2: "Christmas with the Kranks" didn't make the cut

Apparently watching Jamie Lee Curtis settle for smoked trout after nearly diving into the road to save her highly priced honey baked ham from being crushed in a trucking incident isn't funny anymore. 

3: "Nestor, The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey"

An animated short from 1977, "Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey" is making an appearance from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Dec. 4. The short tells the story of a donkey with — you guessed it: unusually long ears — on his journey to Bethlehem in the Roman era, according to IMDb.

4: A few unlikely Christmas movies

Woody and Buzz will be coming to our homes in "Toy Story," "Toy Story 2" and "Toy Story 3" Dec. 10 and Dec. 11. The late Gene Wilder will sing the classic song "Pure Imagination" in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" on Dec. 1, 2 and 13. Elsa will belt "Let It Go" in Disney's "Frozen" on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18. These may not be Christmas movies, but they're sure to hold a place in viewers' hearts, regardless. 

5: Sappy Christmas romances 

Would it be "25 Days of Christmas" without the movies known for their Hallmark-esque, predictable storylines? Freeform doesn't think so and has scheduled a few guilty pleasures such as, "12 Dates of Christmas" on Dec. 7, "Holiday in Handcuffs" on Dec. 8 and "Christmas Cupid," on Dec. 12.

6: Claymation classics

Freeform is offering traditionalist viewers a treat by showing the 1974 "The Year Without a Santa Claus" special on Dec. 1, 2, 4, 5, 11, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25. The 1976 "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" special is scheduled for Dec. 1 and Dec. 17. The 1979 "Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July" special is on Dec. 4 and Dec. 9, and the 1970 "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" special is set for Dec. 4, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25.

7: Two Jack Frost movies

'90s kids will be surprised to learn that the beloved 1998 film "Jack Frost" isn't the only movie with that title. For context, the '90s Jack Frost is the snowman that OU students place President David Boren's face onto when they hope he will make the call for a snow day. However, the 1979 "Jack Frost" special is one of the classic claymation films. The 1998 "Jack Frost" version will be shown on Dec. 16, 22 and 23, and the 1979 "Jack Frost" will be shown on Dec. 2 and Dec. 24.
