For years, I begged my parents to buy me $40 to $70 Halloween costumes. When I became a college student and had to live on a budget, I learned the joy of creating my own costumes. Here are a few easy DIY Halloween costumes you can try out this year using items that may already be in your closet!
1. Channel one of your favorite celebrities
Unleash your inner dangerous woman. After walking around Charlotte Russe, I ran into a pair of lace bunny ears, similar to the style Ariana Grande sported on the cover of her latest album "Dangerous Woman." To complete the Ariana Grande look (and to stay warm), an all-black crop top and leggings will do. As for shoes, any pair of black, heeled boots will work. Grande never walks anywhere without her heels. Finally, to complete the look, pull your hair back into Grande’s signature high ponytail.
2. Recreate an everyday character
About three years ago, I wore a lifeguard sweatshirt I had purchased during a beach trip and walked around as a lifeguard. I paired it with aviator sunglasses, shorts and white sunscreen on my nose. To amp up the look even more, wear a whistle around your neck and walk around with a beach ball. It’s such an easy look and, most likely, features something already sitting in your closet!
3. Transform your squad into another one
Last year, my friends and I decided to be “Wild 'n Out” girls from the MTV show "Wild 'n Out." We ordered the shirts with the official logo online. However, Sooner Mall also has a T-shirt press kiosk that can print any logo you want. Due to the fact that each "Wild 'n Out" girl on the show has her own style, it was easy for us to display our inner styles. For my look, I cropped the shirt and wore a pair of ripped, acid-wash jeans and heels.

4. Snapchat filters are not just for your phone
An easy look to recreate would be the lovely flower crown Snapchat filter. Since flower crowns have been in high demand since 2012, you might have one sitting in your closet right now. If not, it is easy to create or find one in stores. I wore this costume with a flower crown I purchased from PacSun back in 2015. The best part about this look is you get to wear whatever you want for the outfit! Another option is to become a simple cat filter. I wore a pair of cat ears I purchased at Forever 21 and I drew a cat nose and whiskers on my face with some eyeliner — super simple, easy and creative.

5. When it’s too late to even put something together...
Every year, stores like Victoria's Secret have funny Halloween-themed shirts to wear. Two years ago, I purchased a shirt that said, “Here for the boos,” with a few of my friends and we all wore them together. To spice up my look a bit, I wore a pair of heart-shaped cat ears I purchased at Forever 21. It was such a cute and easy look to put together.
