The Sooners are preparing for what may be their greatest, and most anticipated, challenge of the season as No. 2 Nebraska and No. 4 Stanford come to Norman for Oklahoma's home opener.
Nebraska is coming to Oklahoma with a win over No. 3 Ohio State two weeks ago and, along with Stanford, is bringing some of the best male gymnast's in the nation.
"Workouts this week have been really hard, but that's how it always is here," senior Hunter Justus said of the Sooners preparation for this Saturday. "Nothing would change even if we all scored perfect in our previous meet."
Coming into the season, the Sooners faced an unfamiliar problem with their depth in several events, which led to some strange lineups causing the team to be caught off guard against Michigan last week.
"The lineups had gymnasts who were new to the competitive atmosphere of OU, who weren't used to the pressure yet," Justus said. "In practice, we've tried to put more pressure on them this week so they'll be more prepared for Saturday."
To make this home opener special, the first 500 students to arrive will receive free national championship t-shirts to commemorate the team's success last year and the national championship trophy will also be on display.
"I have a feeling we're a great team this year," coach Mark Williams said. "Our performance this Saturday will show us how good."
The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners, No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers and No. 4 Stanford Cardinals will meet at 7 p.m. this Saturday in McCasland Field House. The meet will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
