On Tuesday, Oklahoma guard Trae Young tied now-Alabama coach Avery Johnson's NCAA single-game assist record. Johnson spoke about Young's accomplishments Thursday. 

Johnson said he was happy for Young, but hoped he'd broken the record, saying "records are made to be broken."

Johnson (1988) is one of now four players who have recorded 22 assists in a game. Young, Tony Fairley (1987) and Sherman Douglas (1989) all share the record. Oklahoma's freshman is the youngest to record the stat — the rest were seniors when they accomplished the feat. 

In addition to the assists, Young finished the Sooners' 105-68 win over Northwestern State with 26 points and four rebounds. He leads the nation in both scoring and assists.  

The Sooners play Alabama in Tuscaloosa as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge at 1:15 p.m. CT, Saturday, Jan. 27.
