NFL Draft 2018: Baker Mayfield chooses jersey number, sticks with 6

Former Sooner quarterback Baker Mayfield chose to keep No. 6 as his jersey number Friday after being picked No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns the night before.

Mayfield said he hadn't gotten to pick his jersey number since he was in high school, adding that No. 6 was just given to him when he got to college. After a few seconds of mulling it over, Mayfield decided to stick with the number that had become synonymous with his name.

Mayfield arrived in Cleveland earlier Friday after watching the draft from his home in Austin, Texas, with friends, family and former coaches. He was officially introduced as a member of the Browns with new teammate and former Ohio State corner Denzel Ward in a press conference where the two were given a jersey to commemorate being first round picks.

The Heisman Trophy winner threw for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns in his senior season with Oklahoma as he helped lead the team to the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Rose Bowl.
