OU is ranked in the top six schools for petroleum engineering by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is awarded to only three students internationally for a four-year college program in petroleum engineering. Two incoming freshmen at OU were two of the three lucky recipients this year.
Bryce Ratchford and Karen Tapp will start their degree this fall at OU's Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering.
OU's Mewbourne School of Petroleum Engineering currently has four students enrolled that previously have received the Gus Archie Scholarship.
The scholarship is supported by the Archie Fund of the Society of Petroleum Engineering Foundation, and non-profit foundation that recognizes Gus E. Archie's support of the foundation to stimulate the advancement of petroleum technology.
Archie developed the fundamental quantitative relationships amidst porosity, electrical resistively and hydrocarbon saturation of rocks. He is considered "a pioneer" in the area of formation evaluation.
Interim director of the Mewbourne school, Subhash Shah said that he is very excited that the students have chosen OU for their education.
"I would like to congratulate these students for their achievements and receiving the prestigious Gus Archie Scholarship form the society of Petroleum Engineers. The Mewbourne School has a long tradition of providing quality education, research and service to the energy industry," Shaw said in a recent press release.
Ratchford agrees with Shaw.
"I'm very honored to have received the scholarship. The competition is grueling, being an international competition with only a few scholarships awarded. I feel it is one of my greatest accomplishments to date," Ratchford said.hello there & you too
