OU will sever ties with clothing manufacturer VF Corporation effective June 1, president David Boren announced in an email to Sooners Against Sweatshops.

After meeting with students from the activist group in early April, Boren sent an email to VF chair, president and CEO Eric Wiseman informing him that OU’s contract with the clothing company would not be renewed for 2016 if VF did not sign the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety.

Sooners Against Sweatshops has been protesting the sale of clothing made by VF Corporation in the OU Bookstore because of unsafe working conditions in its factories in Bangladesh and Swaziland.

VF Corporation brands include The North Face, Majestic, Jansport, Timberland and Wrangler.
