The Norman Public Schools district has canceled school for April 9, marking the sixth school day Norman students will miss class due to ongoing teacher walkouts.
According to a letter from NPS Superintendent Nick Migliorino updated April 6, the school district’s teachers will likely remain at the Oklahoma Capitol on Monday, April 9 to continue advocating for increased education funding. Schools will not have sufficient staffing “to provide learning environments that are safe, secure or productive” during that time, Migliorino said in the letter.
Migliorino asks in the letter that parents consider contacting legislators in order to encourage a funding solution. Updates from the district also emphasize that SAT exams for high school juniors will be held Tuesday, April 10 regardless of the walkout situation.
The Oklahoma City Public Schools district also canceled school April 9, using all of the district’s snow days and moving its last day of school, previously May 29, to May 31.
Oklahoma City Public Schools will continue to provide free meals at specific locations and times, and various Norman community resources will provide childcare and food.
