Update: University press secretary Matt Epting told The Daily in an email June 5 at 11 a.m. that Scamehorn removed himself from participation June 4 but was still scheduled to speak as of early June 4.
John Scamehorn, an OU professor emeritus recently accused by at least three former university students of sexual harassment, removed himself from participation in the Oklahoma Memorial Union June 6.
Scamehorn, who taught and researched chemical and biological engineering at OU before his retirement, was scheduled to speak Wednesday, June 6 at the 22nd International Symposium on Surfactants in Solution hosted by OU in the Oklahoma Memorial Union.
OU released a statement June 4 through university press secretary Matt Epting saying Scamehorn and OU cut employment ties in Feb. 2016, Epting said in a separate statement that Scamehorn "retains the title" of professor emeritus but receives no benefits other than those afforded to "any other university retiree."
As Scamehorn has not been reached by The Daily for comment after leaving two voicemails on June 4, it is unclear if Scamehorn ended his participation as a result of allegations against him. Scamehorn's scheduled talk was titled "Laundry Detergency of Solid Non–Particulate Soil or Waxy Solids."
