Artist who designed 'LOVE' sculpture on OU's campus passes away at age 89

Renowned artist, who designed the "LOVE" statue that now sits near Jacobson Hall on OU's campus, has died at age 89. 

Robert Indiana's design first came to its current location in 2015 after being given to President David Boren as a gift. The sculpture is not unique to OU but is one of many of the same design spread throughout the U.S. at over 30 locations. 

The Associated Press reports Indiana's death was caused by respiratory failure at his home off the coast of Maine. 

Though the "LOVE" design was Indiana's most well-known work, Indiana also created a rendition of the statue with the word "HOPE" in honor of former President Barack Obama.
