'Absolutely inaccurate': OU President James Gallogly denies Transcript report that he threatened to 'destroy' David Boren

OU President James Gallogly denied a report from The Norman Transcript that he had threatened former President David Boren regarding disagreements over university finances. 

"Absolutely inaccurate," Gallogly said when asked about the story. "That simple, no more complicated than that." 

The Transcript reported on Tuesday that after Boren published an op-ed criticizing Gallogly's depiction of OU's finances as dire, he told a senior OU official to tell Boren: "You tell him that I am the meanest son of a bitch he has ever seen, and if he ever crosses me again, I will destroy him." 

The Daily had received a similar tip but had been unable to independently confirm the story.

Gallogly said the story was "really silly."

"Why does this come up now? Apparently that was just before I took office, why does that come up now?" Gallogly said to a Transcript reporter. "Did you ever ask yourself that? I wonder why they made that up now?" 

The Transcript article was published Tuesday afternoon just before the Board of Regents 4 p.m. meeting where Gallogly, the regents and other senior university officials are gathered.

The story did not identify the sources who had disclosed information about the alleged incident.
