We have officially reached our final trailer, Star Wars fans. What a journey it has been. It seems as if J.J. Abrams has discovered the Star Wars formula, filling our phone screens with gleeful nostalgia.
Luckily for us, we still know very little about the plot of the movie. Abrams is no stranger to cryptic trailers, with "Super 8" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" having the same amounts of mystery.
I know we’re all disappointed Jar Jar Binks won’t be in the film, but so far it is looking fantastic. While we have learned other info, we will only be referring to the three main trailers released by Disney.
Our first trailer starts with a mystic narration from an unknown source. Many speculate that it is Supreme Leader Snoke, played by Andy Serkis. The first words said in the trailer are, “There’s been an awakening, have you felt it?” as Finn, played by John Boyega, jumps onto the screen.
I don’t think this was an accident. Finn is the awakening, beginning his journey to become a Jedi Master. We know from trailer #3 that he is an ex-Stormtrooper, crashing his TIE fighter onto Jakku, a new planet in the Star Wars universe. His crash leads him to Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, a character with shocking similarities to Luke Skywalker.
Rey is self described as “no one”, wandering the desert of Jakku. To her right is a BB-8, an adorable, R2-D2-esque robot with a soccer ball for a body. Watching Rey’s eyes fixate on a ship leaving the planet shows her hunger for adventure, just as Luke stood watching his planet’s binary sunset. After an incident on Jakku, most likely the entrance of Captain Phasma, the mysterious silver Stormtrooper, played by Gwendoline Christie, Finn and Rey must escape.
This leads them to Han Solo, Chewbacca and the iconic Millennium Falcon. Han and Chewbacca’s adventures in-between the events of the sixth and seventh movies are unknown. What we do know is that they have been away from their beloved spaceship, due to Han’s line, “Chewie, we’re home,” and Chewbacca’s classic growl.
Unlike Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, owns a decent amount of trailer time. Hooded, with a robotic voice eerily similar to Darth Vader’s, he plans to finish what his predecessor attempted to do in the original trilogy: control the galaxy with fear. His method is similar, too. A big, ominous Death Star. The Empire may be many things, but they are not inventive.
At the same time Finn will be influenced by the legendary Luke Skywalker, now an old man. Luke will train him in the ways of the force, leading him on an explosive journey to Kylo Ren and Supreme Commander Snoke.
Rey’s fate is still pretty unknown at this point. Based off of the trailers she is a curious wanderer, especially during her exploration of the crashed Star Destroyer.
Even with little knowledge "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the movie is looking very promising. The film hits theaters on Dec. 17.
