OU President David Boren took a seat on a throne made of Dr Pepper Wednesday in Walker Tower.
Walker 10, a floor that houses National Merit Scholars, has a tradition of building thrones. This year they made one out of Dr Pepper cans given to students during move in.
“Dr Pepper is President Boren’s favorite soda,” said Erik Fretland, a managerial economics masters student and RA of the floor.
One of Fretland’s residents, freshman Nathan Cain, coordinated Boren’s visit. The computer engineering and computer science student is enrolled in Boren’s federal government class. Armed with his friend Victoria Mulholland’s homemade cookies, Cain showed Boren a photo of the throne after class and asked if he would sit in it. Boren laughed and said yes.
“He was pretty cool about it,” Cain said.
At around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Boren entered Walker 10 and took a seat on a mountain of Dr Pepper.
“Give a bunch of future engineers a massive amount of Dr Pepper which is essentially a form of building blocks, and see what they can come up with,” Fretland said.
