No. 6 OU softball (25-2) defeated Tulsa (8-15) in a lopsided affair Wednesday, winning 12-1 in five innings behind a flurry of early runs.

Gabbie Garcia and Ailana Agbayani pave the way early
The Sooners jumped out early, capitalizing on a six-run first inning to take a lead they never surrendered.
OU had all nine batters hit in the first, with sophomore shortstop Gabbie Garcia and senior second baseman Ailana Agbayani both tallying home runs. Garcia’s three-run shot extended the Sooner lead to four following an RBI single by junior outfielder Kasidi Pickering. Agbayani’s two-run shot, fighting the wind in right field, extended the early lead to six. This marks the second time the two have homered in the same game, the first coming last season against Arkansas.
Garcia and Agbayani have been focal points of the OU offense early in the season, both with high batting averages and power on the long ball. Garcia, who leads the pair with 12 home runs, is hitting .439 with 39 RBI’s. Agbayani has five home runs but is hitting .491 with 27 runs scored, serving as a sparkplug in the back of head coach Patty Gasso’s lineup.
The two infielders will look to continue their success into Southeastern Conference play, where they are on track to finish this season with better statistics than last year. Garcia finished the 2025 campaign hitting .351 with 20 homers, while Agbayani hit .314 with just four long balls.
Home runs continue to lift OU
Home runs continued to come in bunches for OU, as the Sooners extended their national lead in long balls to 108 after launching five more against Tulsa.
OU’s ability to generate home runs from multiple spots in the lineup has been a defining trait of the offense this season. Rather than relying on one or two sluggers, the Sooners have received contributions across the order, allowing them to create separation quickly in games and maintain consistent run production.
Senior utility player Ella Parker hit two home runs on the day, continuing a seasonlong power surge at the top of OU’s lineup. Parker and freshman catcher Kendall Wells, who typically occupy the second and third spots in the order, have combined for 32 home runs this season. Wells leads the pair with 19, while Parker has added 13.
Parker said after the game she was focused on hitting the ball hard rather than hitting home runs.
“We were focusing on hitting hard line drives, but it felt good to get one out,” said Parker.
The power production extends deeper into the lineup as well. Pickering has launched 11 home runs from the cleanup spot, providing consistent run production as one of the Sooners’ top hitters.
Further down the order, freshman first baseman Lexi McDaniel has added another power threat, tallying her eighth home run of the season against Tulsa from the sixth spot in the lineup, giving OU another bat capable of changing the game with one swing.
Pitching remains consistent
Freshman pitcher Allyssa Parker continued her strong stretch against Tulsa, starting in the circle and throwing three innings of one-run ball. Parker allowed three hits while recording four strikeouts in the outing.
Her impact has not been limited to the circle. The freshman has also emerged as a key contributor at the plate for OU, hitting .392 with nine home runs through 43 at-bats this season. Parker’s ability to contribute both in the circle and at the plate has given the Sooners another dynamic option, providing production in the lineup while also delivering valuable innings on the pitching staff.
Senior pitcher Kiersten Deal came in to pitch in relief of Parker, where she threw one scoreless inning, while recording a strikeout. Deal has experienced a bit of a resurgence on the mound after a tough start to the year, something Gasso has praised for her only four-year player.
“We just need her to have confidence and trust that she sticks with the plan, not to listen (to critics), just to be herself and help this team find ways to win,” said Gasso.
Deal and the rest of the pitching staff will look to continue to prove consistency as OU dives into SEC play and the back half of the schedule kicks into gear.
