No. 16 Oklahoma (1-0) defeated Temple (0-1) 51-3 on Friday in Norman.

Here is what offensive coordinator Seth Littrell said postgame:

On the offense:

“I feel like we started really well. We kind of took the first couple of drives down and got in a good rhythm. We hit some nice shots and got the ball rolling a little bit. We scored those early touchdowns fairly quickly. I thought we managed to drive well, and I thought we executed well and that was the biggest thing. I think there's a lot of good things. Defense did a heck of a job tonight. Really, they played unbelievable and gave us a lot of short fields, which helped us, but at the same time I think we were six of six inside the redzone, which was a positive. We scored five touchdowns on the six red zone opportunities and scored seven out of the first 10 drives.

“We did a lot of good things, but we have a lot to clean up. Felt like we kind of got out of a rhythm at times, especially there late in the first half, and really in the second half we got out of a rhythm. Had some inopportune time penalties that set us back behind the chains, had some drops that were really hurtful and just didn’t get back in a rhythm. Overall, it was exciting how we started, and we just have to make sure we maintain that energy we had throughout the first couple of drives throughout the entire game.”

On Jackson Arnold:

“I think he managed the game well. If you look at it, he was 17 of 25, and he had four drops. I thought he managed it well. We didn’t push the ball downfield as much as we would like to, but when you’re up like that and just trying to manage and play a lot of different guys and a lot of different personnel groupings to see what you have that is part of it. But I thought he managed the game very well.”

On the offensive line:

“Overall, it is probably like most of the team, we have got a lot to grow on. We got a lot to get better at. I thought as of right now it was solid. But that is why we watch the tape. It is hard for me to come off the field, when I haven’t seen the game in itself. I feel like it was four hours from quarter one to quarter four, but I think overall those guys stepped up. I played a lot of different guys at a lot of different positions so that was good to see.”

On adjusting after injury:

“That is part of the game plan. You are going to play a tough schedule and at different times, different guys are going to have to step up and make tough plays when they’re called upon. That’s at any position. That is why early in the season it is important to play a lot of different guys, especially with the young guys, because I think we have a lot of young, special players and they need those game reps in order to get that experience so they do feel comfortable when they do get in there. It was awesome to play a lot of different guys, and I feel like a lot of guys, when they got their opportunities, played well. Again, it was a little vanilla tonight, and I thought we could have done some better things, and I thought we could have made some better opportunities by making sure we extend the drives better, but overall accomplished what we wanted to accomplish tonight.”

On when he expects the offense to click:

“I’m not a very patient man myself, and I don’t expect anybody to be. At the end of the day it is our job to make sure coaches that we put the players in the best situations to be successful. The players’ job is to go in there and execute and do their job when they're in there in order to help our team win. It’s a two way street, and we’re going to continue to work and get a day better, get a week better. I love our group, they work extremely hard. They have grinded through this fall camp. We put them through a pretty tough camp, and there have been a lot of ups and downs, but they are a tough group, they love ball, they love each other and it is a cool group to be around. There is no doubt in my mind we will continue to get a day better and continue to keep moving forward and help this football team win games.”

On Deion Burks:

“Deion is very explosive. Obviously very talented as a receiver, and we were able to get the ball in his hand quick. It was about just trying to find as many different ways of getting him the ball. With an explosive guy like that, always trying to find different ways to get him the ball. Tonight, we were trying to find some of those, and we did at times. Again, Deion is playing a lot of different roles right now, especially with some of the guys that went down. He's playing in all the different personnel groupings tonight. So there was a lot on his plate, especially in game one in a new system, and he did a lot of great things. So he has to continue growing his role, and again, we have to continue to grow a lot of roles offensively. That's the purpose of game one, trying to put as many different personnel groupings out there as we can, to see exactly how we feel about each one and to try to get as many reps as possible.”
