No. 19 Oklahoma (25-10, 7-8 SEC) won a weekend series against No. 17 Vanderbilt (25-11, 7-8) at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Sooners took the first two games on Friday and Saturday, before dropping the series finale on Sunday. It was OU’s first series win since March 21-23 against Mississippi State.

Oklahoma’s offense showed flashes of a bounce back this weekend after previously struggling to get the bats going against LSU and Dallas Baptist. The Sooners scored 25 runs in the series against the Commodores, with the highlight being the 14-0 OU win on Saturday.

Next, the Sooners face Oklahoma State (16-16, 5-7 Big 12) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Stillwater on ESPN+. Oklahoma is 29-49 all-time against the Cowboys.

Here is a recap from the series:

Friday: Oklahoma 9, Vanderbilt 4

• Junior left-handed pitcher Cade Crossland tossed in 5.2 innings and allowed only one earned run. His eight strikeouts on Friday is a new season-high.

• The Sooners were able to set the tone early, putting up four runs in the first inning and never trailing in the game.

• Sophomore infielder/outfielder Jason Walk posted a three-hit performance after being moved to the No. 5 spot in the order. Walk also added two RBIs and a stolen base.

• Junior infielder Dayton Tockey went 3-for-3 in the win with a double and a walk.

• Sophomore infielder Jaxon Willits added his team-leading ninth home run of the season in the seventh inning to extend the Sooners’ lead.

• With Friday’s win, OU snapped a four-game losing streak.

Saturday: Oklahoma 14, Vanderbilt 0 (7 innings)

• Junior right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon threw a complete game shutout in the run rule victory over the Commodores. Witherspoon only gave up two hits and struck out six.

• OU put up seven runs in the fourth inning, and extended its lead to 11-0 before the inning was over. The scoring outburst was capped off by a three-run home run by junior infielder Dawson Willis.

• Junior catcher Easton Carmichael had five RBIs in the win. He got the scoring started with a three-run homer in the first inning.

• Sophomore outfielder Dasan Harris had a three-hit game for the second time this season, and also added three RBIs.

• Oklahoma set a single-game attendance record, with 5,051 fans in attendance on Saturday.

Sunday: Vanderbilt 13, Oklahoma 2 (8 innings)

• Junior right-hander Malachi Witherspoon went five innings, and allowed six hits and six runs. Witherspoon had 11 strikeouts in the loss.

• The Sooners were only held to five hits, and committed three errors in the defeat.

• Oklahoma used six pitchers on Sunday, and sophomore left-hander Cameron Johnson made his first appearance since April 1 against Texas Tech, after starting the season in the starting rotation.

• “I thought all in all it was a great weekend,” head coach Skip Johnson said Sunday. “Fans were outstanding yesterday and Friday. Today I looked at (Section 405), and I think I saw four people up there.”
