With OU trailing 1-0 late in the sixth inning against Arizona State, freshman catcher Kendall Wells hit a two-run home run to give the Sooners the lead.

Wells, from Bogart, Georgia, was one of the most sought-after catchers in the 2025 recruiting class before joining the Sooners. OU head coach Patty Gasso had high praise for the freshman heading into the season.

“She’s a tough person to get out. She competes with everything,” Gasso said on Saturday. “It’s just so cool to see that she will never let up.”

Wells’ homer gave the Sooners' momentum as they closed out their first game of the season.
