One-handed catches seem to be all the rage these days.

Oklahoma wide receiver Jeffery Mead made sure he wasn't left out of the buzz Monday with a ridiculous single-hand grab during the Sooners' fifth fall practice.

Mead, who looked noticeably bigger Monday than he did during spring practice, said he put on just five pounds over the summer.

"It's just up here, so you can see it," he said, gesturing to his upper body. "The first summer, everyone was like, 'Hey, Jeffery! Did you put on 20 pounds?'

"No, I haven't done anything. When I first got here, I lost five pounds and then started putting on weight."

In new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley's Air Raid system, Mead will have a chance to contribute as the Sooners rotate "at least" eight receivers a game.

"We're going to be throwing around guys everywhere," the freshman said. "Defenders get confused because we motion guys and move guys in and out. Basically, it messes with people a lot."

As for if he will start when Oklahoma takes on Akron Sept. 5 in its season-opener, Mead was unsure.

"I want to start," he said. "I mean, I have a good chance but there's no guarantee until two days from the game."
