For decades, Homecoming has transformed the OU campus into a hub of celebration and unity, welcoming alumni back and encouraging students to showcase their OU pride during football season.Â
“I love the idea of coming together as one and celebrating our school, especially with us moving to the SEC,” said Sydney Huggins, Homecoming vice chair of public relations. “There’s something for every single person, and I want everyone to be involved and feel seen.”Â
Homecoming week is underway, taking place Oct. 13-19, with this year’s theme, "Lights, Camera, OU!” Student organizations are participating in various programs and competitions highlighting classic movies.
In addition to the traditional activities like the Rah! Rally and the Homecoming Parade, set for Oct. 18 starting at 7:30 p.m., this year will feature a new fundraising event in partnership with OU Dance Marathon.Â
Quy Nguyen, director of student life and assistant dean of students, and other Glow Run participants prepare for the race on Oct. 16. The glow-in-the-dark 5K was a new OU Dance Marathon partnership to raise funds for pediatric wellness programs.
The Glow Run, a glow-in-the-dark 5K open to the public, is a new student-led initiative that both the Homecoming and OUDM leadership team said they were excited about it.Â
“Every dollar raised from the Glow Run will go toward OUDM’s total donation to the Children’s Health Foundation,” said Sandy Vo, OUDM executive vice chair of finance. “Every dollar will support the health of Oklahoma’s children.”Â
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 17. Organizations and individuals can register by visiting OU Engage, signing in and searching “Homecoming & OUDM's Glow Run Participation Form.”Â
“Partnering with OUDM for this the Glow Run adds even more significance, as everyone is uniting for a purpose larger than themselves,” said Dominique Cootes, Homecoming vice chair of day programming. “By coming together, we can foster a stronger sense of community and school pride, knowing we’re making a real difference.”Â
Another highlight of the week is the announcement of the Homecoming Royalty Court during Saturday's 11:45 a.m. football game. The court will be acknowledged during halftime, celebrating the outstanding contributions these students have made to the University community.Â
