OU has appointed Elizabeth “Liz” Karr as vice provost for online education, according to a mass email sent to faculty and staff Wednesday morning.
The appointment will be effective April 4, following final approval from the OU Board of Regents.
Karr is expected to focus on the university’s online programs to make degree earning more accessible and ensure online programs uphold academic standards, according to the position’s requirements listed on the application form. Through encouraging engaging, supportive online learning environments, Karr is expected to assist in achieving OU’s online enrollment goal of 10,000 students, a priority outlined in the university’s "Lead On, University” strategic plan.
Karr has worked for OU since 2007, starting as an assistant professor in the department of microbiology and plant biology. She currently serves as senior associate dean of the OU Graduate College and professor of biological sciences.
During her time at OU, she has raised $3 million in external research funding and has authored or co-authored over 20 peer reviewed publications. She also holds a doctorate in microbiology from Southern Illinois University.
Karr will take over duties from Senior Vice Provost for Student Success Mark Morvant, who temporarily stepped into the role.
