The City of Norman released safety guidelines for residents and children trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

According to a September press release, the recommended timeframe for trick-or-treating is 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31.

Norman residents are encouraged to stay in their own neighborhood and plan a trick-or-treating route in a familiar, well-lit area.

People of all ages are encouraged to wear bright clothing and carry a flashlight, the release advises. Children in big or small groups should stay close to an adult. All pedestrians should be aware of traffic and stay on sidewalks as much as possible, according to the release.

Trick-or-treaters are advised to cross the street at a corner or intersection with traffic signals and crosswalks.

Motorists are encouraged to drive slowly, avoid distractions and use extreme caution in areas where trick-or-treating is taking place. If alcohol is being consumed, having a designated driver is highly advised.
