WATCH: OU Daily staffer Willie Gillespie recaps law enforcement's search near OU's campus for a suspect connected to a Noble stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

Law enforcement have a suspect, initially suspected to be armed, in custody after pursuing him near the OU campus. The suspect is connected to a stolen vehicle in Noble.

OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. sent a mass email informing the OU community that there is no ongoing threat, and apologizing for the anxiety people may be having regarding the incident.

Harroz wrote that OUPD assisted multiple law enforcement agencies in search of the suspect who allegedly stole a car in Noble. The search extended onto the southeast edge of OU property near the university's Jimmie Austin Golf Course, which then prompted law enforcement to take action and issue multiple RAVE alerts.

Harroz wrote that he understands that the people in the OU community may feel worried after being notified of an incident that required several armed personnel.

“I understand that seeing a heavy police response near or adjacent to our campus or receiving multiple alerts can cause worry and anxiety. As a university, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our community, and part of that responsibility includes providing timely and transparent communication. Our commitment to your safety remains paramount, and while these situations are rare, they reinforce the importance of keeping everyone informed in real time,” Harroz wrote.

According to Harroz, OU relies on the RAVE alert system to share accurate and timely updates, and these alerts are the university’s best opportunity to keep people informed and to provide guidance so people can act accordingly.

Harroz also offered NormanHealth SciencesOU-Tulsa, counseling services, as well as TELUS Health and Employee Assistance Program for faculty and staff.

Harroz asked those within the OU community to ensure that their contact information is up to date for the university’s emergency communication system at ecs.ou.edu. He also wrote that people can also add secondary numbers for loved ones to receive alerts.

“I hope this provides helpful context for you, and I want to thank you for your trust and patience as we navigated these events together. I am grateful to the members of our campus and law enforcement community for their collaboration in keeping us safe,” Harroz wrote.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Eric Foster said police have learned that the suspect has warrants across multiple counties. Foster said when police put the suspect in custody he was unarmed but could not confirm whether the suspect was always unarmed.

"He's a danger to the public and that's why so many resources were given for this," Foster said.

Foster also commended the efforts of all the agencies involved in the capture.

"This highlights a concerted effort between everybody as multiple agencies, law enforcement agencies involved to keep the public safe, lot of equipment, lots of assets were utilized to make sure that the community was safe," Foster said.

An OU Daily reporter on the scene said the suspect was captured near the intersection of Park Terrace and Clearview Drive.

Law enforcement are continuing to search for the suspect in the area east of Jenkins Avenue and Stinson Street, according to a post NPD made on the social platform X.

"The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, 5'11, 165 pounds with dark hair. He was last seen wearing all black and white tennis shoes," the post reads.

1:31 p.m.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Eric Foster, around 9 a.m. the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was notified by Cleveland County and NPD that police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle with multiple people in the vehicle. Law enforcement initially arrested three of the individuals but were unable to locate one person.

Foster said the individual was male and wearing a ski mask. Foster said they initially believed he was armed at the time but found ammunition along a running route that leads law enforcement to believe he is not armed now.

"We do know who this person is based on the three people in the vehicle. ... Norman PD tells us they had contact with him earlier yesterday so they are aware of him. They are aware of exactly what he looks like, so they'll be following up with that on the backside," Foster said.

Foster said the suspect has not been located as of now but law enforcement are searching nearby houses to check on nearby Norman residents' wellbeing.

"The public is safe. If you see anything, hear anything, see anything, please, please call 911," Foster said.

Noble Police Department told OU Daily the suspect is related to a reported stolen vehicle incident which prompted Noble Public Schools campuses to go on lockdown. According to a Noble police spokesperson, three suspects from the incident were taken into custody and a fourth fled.

When officers cleared the stolen vehicle, an empty gun holster was found, prompting law enforcement to broadcast that the suspect is potentially armed.

OU Police Department told OU Daily it is assisting multiple agencies but has no say in the matter. According to OUPD, it sent RAVE alert messages because the law enforcement emergency is adjacent to OU's campus.
