Successful television actor and OU alumnus Iqbal Theba will speak at 3 p.m. Friday in the Union’s Scholars Room at the International Advisory Committee’s free event “Being International in Hollywood.”

Theba has acted in several popular television shows, including “Friends,” “Community” and “Glee” where he plays the role of Principal Figgins.

IAC President Hillary Medina tracked Theba down through the Alumni Association. Theba was excited and when IAC asked him to come back to OU and speak.

“I was actually watching ‘Glee’ one day, and my mom — who used to work at the University of Oklahoma — came in and recognized him,” Medina said. “She said that he used to perform at our [IAC] events.”

As a an alumnus, former international student, and former Eve of Nations performer, Medina felt Theba would be the perfect guest to come and speak on the weekend of this year’s Eve of Nations.

Theba will speak about being faced with stereotypes as a Pakistani actor in Hollywood. Theba will also introduce the 44th annual Eve of Nations at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Lloyd Noble Center.
