OU alum Adrianna Hicks became a Grammy Award winner Sunday, as a principal vocalist on “Some Like It Hot,” the 2024 winner of best musical theater album.
Hicks graduated from the Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre in 2011 and made her Broadway debut in 2015 in “The Color Purple.” She has since performed in Broadway productions of “SIX: The Musical” as Catherine of Aragon, “Some Like It Hot” as Sugar and “Aladdin” as part of the ensemble cast.
Lyn Cramer, OU School of Musical Theatre professor, worked closely with Hicks during her time studying at OU. Cramer was Hicks’s jazz and tap dance professor and directed her in Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma’s 2011 production of "Hairspray."
“Anybody that came in contact with her knew she was going to be a star,” Cramer said.

Cramer described Hicks as a highly dedicated and versatile triple threat with a powerhouse voice.
“She’s got great energy in the room. She’s kind to everyone she comes in contact with,” Cramer said. "Especially in this day and age and in that business, that goes a long way — it’s why people want her back again and again.”
This summer, Hicks is returning to Oklahoma to perform, Cramer told the OU Daily. Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is putting on a production of "Mary Poppins" at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. Cramer said she will be directing the show and Hicks is set to star as Mary Poppins. Lyric's website lists her as the director for the performances of Mary Poppins scheduled to run from June 25-30.
Michael Baron, Lyric's producing artistic director, contacted the Daily late Friday to make clear Lyric does not have a contract with Hicks to play Mary Poppins this summer and Cramer herself is not under contract with the theatre until this summer.
