Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield became the sixth Sooner to score 2,000 points in program history on Saturday afternoon. Hield reached the plateau in the first half on a layup against West Virginia.
Hield joins Wayman Tisdale, Jeff Webster, Tim McCalister, Darryl Kennedy and Stacey King in OU's 2,000-point club. Hield needs just seven points to tie King for No. 5 in OU history. Tisdale is Oklahoma's all-time leading scorer with 2,661 points.
The senior entered Saturday's game against West Virginia just three points shy of the benchmark. Hield's four points both came on transition layups.
Hield is the front-runner to win the Wooden Award, given annually to the nation's top player. He entered Oklahoma's game against the Mountaineers averaging 25.2 points per game.
