The OU Board of Regents appointed a new administrator to help monitor and ensure cooperation with the increasing state and federal equity regulations at their meeting Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

Laura Palk was named OU Institutional Equity and Title 9 Coordinator by a unanimous vote.

Palk has previously served at OU as an attorney and educator since first coming to the university in 2001.

OU President David Boren commended Palk for her service to the university to this point in a press release.

“Laura Palk is extremely well qualified to be OU’s Institutional Equity coordinator,” Boren said. “With a strong legal background and in-depth knowledge of the university, she will continue OU’s strong anti-discrimination policies.”

Prior to her legal work here at OU, Palk served as a clerk at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma for 10 years.

As Palk began working at the University of Oklahoma, she helped advise many departments on a variety of legal topics, among them being over employment discrimination, constitutional law, student-related matters and athletics, according to a press release.

The Institutional Equity and Title 9 Coordinator will work as an executive officer alongside the university’s Equal Opportunity Officer, which are both housed in the university’s Institutional Equity Office. The Title 9 Coordinator also will assist in matters pertaining to sexual misconduct, sexual assault, gender discrimination and related groups from gender equity issues including athletics for the Norman campus, Health Sciences Center and OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center, according to a press release.
