Let’s face it: America has an obesity problem. The abundance of drive through fast food chains isn’t helping solve that problem, either.
But one man and his team of filmmakers set out to make a change. Listening to Morgan Spurlock talk about his experience with the film Super Size Me Thursday night was an interesting experience. On one hand, it was enlightening, on the other disheartening. It’s great to know that Spurlock’s film lead to major changes not only for McDonald’s, but for the entire restaurant industry. Numerous restaurants came out with healthy options following Super Size Me. Yet it’s sad to see how little their bleak efforts have reduced the obesity problem. Too many kids weigh over 200 pounds before reaching high school. Too many Americans take in more than twice the recommended calories per day. If Morgan Spurlock’s wacky documentary idea can cause such a resounding change in the restaurant industry, why aren’t more people making such strides to make Americans healthier? Are we trying to get fat and stay unhealthy?
