It’s really frustrating to me when people don’t return my phone calls, but then they’ll text me right away if I shoot them a message. I get equally frustrated when an adult says they don’t have the time to talk to me on the phone, but would prefer if I asked some questions through an e-mail.
I realize that everyone is busy nowadays, but when did we become so busy that we can’t take the time to interact on anything else except via the Internet?
I’m busy too. I have three jobs, meetings, volunteer hours, school, a social life, and I occasionally like to see my mom and dad. I understand how it goes. But I’ve never found it too difficult to hold the phone up to my ear and do something else while talking. I’ve had phone conversations with my boyfriend while talking to my cousin or writing a paper. Sure, neither one of them is getting my full attention, but at least I’m making everyone happy.
This past week I attempted to break a story about some happenings in sororities and fraternities, but as of yet have not received any calls back. I do truly believe that people in the administration are maybe too busy to talk to me, or at least I hope so. Although I know I shouldn’t take it personally, I can’t help but think they assume I’m just another dumb kid with a notebook and a deadline.
Even when something breaking happens, phone calls don’t get returned. I never did find out what happened with Collings Hall construction when that waterline got drilled into.
It’s almost as if I’m reading a book and someone rips the last three pages out. I want someone to finish the story for me.
But by the end of this week, things got a little better. I ended up getting some excellent scholarship information for my story next week from Nancy Mergler. So with that, I will press on and try not to be discouraged in the coming week.
