Usually, I blog about different movies in various genres, but with my most anticipated movie of the year coming out this weekend, I wanted to talk about it.

The Watchmen

“Watchmen!”

When I first saw the preview attached to “The Dark Knight” back in July, I had never heard of “Watchmen". My brother bought a copy of the infamous graphic novel, which made Time’s 100 Best Novels list, sometime last semester. I thought nothing of it until sometime during the Thanksgiving break when I picked up the graphic novel and read the first chapter.

Holy freaking crap, and that was only the first chapter.

Then my bro took the graphic novel back and I wasn’t able to read it until he had read every panel.

One morning during winter break, my brother woke me up when he plopped a copy of Watchmen on my pillow after he had finished it. It took him a few months to read the novel in its entirety due to what he called a stressful class schedule and a slew of finals, so I had been building up the suspense until it were my turn to read it.

Over the next three days I was captivated by each panel and all of the between-chapter inserts. Any time I could get my hands on the graphic novel, whether it was riding in the car to the Cotton Bowl or just going to a movie with the family, I was reading until I had finished it on the third morning around 2:30 a.m.

Ever since, I’ve been counting down to “the end is nigh.”

Everything I’ve seen and read via the Internet and the Watchmen Application I downloaded for my iPhone has shown me that this movie is going to be more than anyone could have expected.

All of the clips I’ve seen online have been great, as they are basically panel-for-panel for the source material. They seem to have gotten all of the characters right. Dr. Manhattan looks great (we’ll see his wang in this but whatever it was in the graphic novel and there’s going to be a sex scene which will make up for it), the Comedian is going to be the man you’re going to love but hate at the same time and Rorschach is going to be the same hard-nosed vigilante that he was in the graphic novel.

The two CDs they’re releasing for the movie are pretty good, but I’ve only listened to the 30-second clips that are on iTunes and the entirety of My Chemical Romance’s rendition of “Desolation Row,” which is the single that was released for the non-score soundtrack (this CD just has songs that we’ve heard before that are or could be used in the movie somewhere). The little of the score I’ve heard of is really good, but Tyler Bates usually does a good job.

I’m happy to read that director Zack Snyder has already come out and said that he isn’t going to be involved in a possible “Watchmen” sequel, even though I have no idea why (outside of make a lot of money) or how they to would do this granted that it took I believe over a decade to put everything together for this movie.

Now, go out and get your Watchmen paraphernalia, I would suggest getting a T-shirt over the Dr. Manhattan condom (awesome promotional idea), and head out to theaters as fast as you can.

So by the time this blog hits OUDaily.com, I’ll be at a midnight showing of what I expect to be an epic movie going experience.
