Jaco99, it's not just the university's bus drivers, custodians, and food service workers who make $8/hr. In fact, many of those positions pay more than $8/hr. If you look at any entry level job listing at Bizzell, for staff positions, you will see that they pay $8/hr. These are not jobs for just shelving books. Bizzell hires students for that, and pays them $7.25/hr! Yet full-time staff are only paid $8/hr to order the library's books, to receive them, to enter them into the library's catalog. And most of these employees have college degrees, most from OU! Thank you to the Daily for sparking conversation on this topic... The staff of this university conducts much of the business that keeps it running on a day to day basis, and plenty of them are working full-time and living in poverty.

Bizzell pays full-time staff $8.00/hour. This is a crime. The work these people are doing is not uncomplicated and is very crucial to keeping the library running. They are paying the library's bills. They are ordering its books. And they make $8.00/hr. And many are OU graduates. It's borderline criminal.

This is ridiculous. In no way are Norman residents faced with looming water rationing. This is fear-mongering "journalism" at its best. Instead of writing an editorial scaring people, why doesn't the Daily ask why the city council thought this resolution would pass? Anyone with a brain could've told you that this was not the year to ask residents for an increase in rates. But yet our city council created this year's budget based on the ASSUMPTION that it would pass! How's that for responsible governance? The city council should've created a budget that was within their already existing means, instead of tying it to a possible rate increase.

It's "LOUVRE," morons. Maybe you shouldn't get to interview Spike Jonze if you can't use a spellchecker.

I can only hope that there's some room leftover for staff raises this year. I am a part-time graduate student in addition to being a full-time staff member here at OU, and we haven't received a raise in two years. Meanwhile, my tuition goes up, but my salary stays the same.

Hooray, another great article from Caitlin! MORE of her please, Daily. She is a talented writer and funny to boot.

LOL @ the Daily, repeatedly publishing this garbage in the first place! You can't interest readers in any kind of legit way, so you publish garbage that you know is garbage, it causes a bunch of controversy, and then you get to run a holier-than-thou editorial, apologizing for the mess. Hey Daily, maybe try just not publishing the garbage in the first place! But then you might have to fill your pages with, you know, actual reporting and interesting ideas. I know that is difficult for you.
Seriously though, the pattern is becoming quite obvious: Bobo's, the rape cartoon, and now this. Give it a rest, Daily. You are a joke among student papers.

I'm a straight female who, as a little girl, never once dreamed about my wedding. I'm 27 now and I won't get married until my gay brothers and sisters can enjoy the same civil rights I would enjoy in a marriage. It's just a matter of time, hang in there Bryan. You have lots of supporters, even here in Oklahoma.

Thank you to all of these employees for their hard work. They are surely underpaid, and when the rest of us are griping about driving to work in the cold and snow, these employees are already here, out in the elements, trying to make things safer for all of us. They deserve a thank you from EVERY Sooner.
