too bad this country is too stupid to have chosen Ron Paul. That would have been a real debate watching obama get slammed on every issue not even his rhetoric could save him

I came to this board to hopefully read the tongue lashing this article so rightfully deserves only to find the three meager comments nearly as bad as the article itself. Listen jelani sims first of all atheism is NOT a religion, atheists simply search for truth and beauty and the TRUTH is that there is no God, we did not come to this conclusion by some revelation written down thousands of years ago, we simply use evidence and reality to support our claims. Think of it the same way you treat other "non-believers" I view you equally as lost my friend, I am going to try and help those who are lost and confused by their mystical beliefs in some old fairy tales. Who says I want to "tolerate" and "respect" religion I certainly do not respect religious belief nor do I want to co-exist with it, it has no reason to be respected. The terrible fallacy that humans will not be "moral" without a belief in a deity or an afterlife is one of the worst tracks of logic ever, religion has no claim to say they are the founding of morals or the back bone of a moral society that notion is laughable and anyone who has done any reading or thinking could crush that argument in a matter of seconds. I look forward to the arrival of Richard Dawkins to this campus, and not only would I love to see some bible thumpers show up and make fools of themselves trying to argue with Dawkins cause we all know thats what Jesus would do? Right? Oh wait... please dont ever write another piece about religion you only make it look worse and trust me that is no easy feat.

There are people moving towards opposing the total surrender of our rights to the government just for the sake of "national security." I would reccomend anyone who sympathizes with this article to visit www.campaignforliberty.com and get involved. Now to Mustafa's comment on this post, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume you were acting surely on ignorance, you cannot take a complex issue such as the effect of american foriegn policy over the past century and just simply make it a right and left issue. This is an issue all americans who still believe in the constitution and what this country use to stand for should care about. The patriot act was an atrocious piece of legislation that had not the war-fear mongering propaganda machine not already taken influence would have never passed in the house. But because we were attacked we are all suppose to "file in line and temporarily give up our freedoms so the government can protect us" This mentality is atrocious and to think for one minute we should have to give up any single one of our freedoms for the sake of security is absurd. The attacks on 9/11 were not an inside job, they were not by "terrorists" who hate us because we are rich and free. It was a retaliation for what the U.S has done in the middle east for the past 100 years we have interviened in so many of affairs, under-mining governments, propping up leaders and putting sanctions that starved thousands simply because they did not agree with us. If anyone honestly believes that the U.S can do whatever it wants around the world and not have consequences because we are "the good guys" then you are terribly ignorant or stupid. We have to look at what we do and see how we would feel if another country was doing it to us it shouldnt take that long to figure out we probably wouldnt be to appreciative if China came over and started telling us how to live and if we didnt comply began to bomb us. I suggest anyone who disagrees with me to read the reasons why we were attacked and then come back and try and argue your same point you wont make it very far. We should be re-thinking our foreign policy and go back to the foreign policy the founders intended one of non-intervention (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ISOLATIONIST) These are the ideas that need to be discussed in todays political realm but no we will have to sit around and listen to mcbama argue about stupid petty differences in eachothers virtually the same platforms where again nothing will change. It's a shame to see what this country has degenerated into when people can actually get excited by a candidate like barrack obama, oh wait i forgot he has a different color skin that really is exciting how silly of me.

ahh charles so witty I really hope you felt like a million bucks after you so cleverly "caught" me in a contradiction. Because surely I couldn't have been talking about the public school system in specific before getting down to ever nitty gritty detail of government funded projects and well to be honest the government has its hand in almost every cookie jar so you have to start somewhere. I'll be more cautious next time charles, and spell it out for you
w o r d b y w o r d so you wont misunderstand next time.

the moment you started touting your pride and confidence in hillary clinton was the moment any credibility of what you were saying went flying out the window on fire. Honestly what did you expect? It's john mccain why on earth would he pick any VP candidate who is supporting your more liberal ideals of course she is gonna be an evangelical gun touting republican its simple politics play to your demographics and that is what he has done. Now to note on of your policy endorsements if you really think Hillary was a good candidate I would suggest you pinch yourself really really hard because you are living in a dream world. Why on earth would we want to send more money to the federal government for public education, ever since the government got involved in public education this country has gotten steadily less intelligent and the more money thrown at the department of education will go to lobbyists and teacher unions not as you so innocently believe the poor teachers in the inner city trying to create another class of "great debaters" I'm so astounded by the naivety of peoples thought in politics especially college kids as they salivate over the democrats, the dems really could care less about you or your well being all they want is your vote and for you to shut up and get out of the way. I wont even begin to touch on your notion for socialized medicine because well I don't have time or space to list out the horrendous nature and consequence of a system like that but it does tell me one thing the Feminist movement will only be hurting their cause if you are one of their think tanks.

great article joe its good to see that there is a real conservative political thinker writing for the daily, John Mccain and Barrack Obama are the same candidate they both have the same interventionist foreign policy, neither will withdraw troops from iraq let alone anywhere else in the world. They both have no understanding whatsoever in economics and don't even bring up the issue of the federal reserve the ENTIRE cause of our crashing dollar. They are both the same candidate though a win for barrack obama would be preferable because that gives republicans another shot to redeem their mangled party and perhaps another ron paul like candidate can run again in 2012 also the republicans when they have a democratic president are more likely to vote against expansion of government its only when a republican is in the oval office like bush that republicans feel its "ok" to enlarge the size of government like they did when bush took office and they LARGELY increased the size of medicare. Its awful what this country is coming to when barrack obama is the "answer" to our questions and problems. there is no such thing as a vote for the lesser of two evils it only rewards bad behavior. not voting at all is a great shoice joe and I am doing the same because the republicans deserved to be punished for what they have done and it sure is a shame that this country is too stupid especially this campus to vote for the real candidate of "change" who actually knows how to fix our countrys problems Ron Paul

Brian you are so deluded in your thinking, you honestly believe the horrid things george bush has done in his foreign policy were not somewhat motivated by his religion, he has said time and time again he think god is calling him to do these things and that its his holy responsibility to carry out gods will. While I do realize he is not totally driven by this and I would just as soon assume its all an act but we have plenty other legislatures who make crazy decisions based on their personal mystical beliefs in some god. we have crazed southern republicans rallying against gay marriage and abortion because they think their holy book is right. I'm sorry you are so upset by a rational choice of no faith and I would gladly take christianity into the public arena anytime with you and easily refute it for it is you who have the burden of proof to a God with no evidence.

You do make a valid point people who ARENT religious should be concerned about the decisions being made by the "religious." Religion should have no place in the political forum I want to know how the candidate is going to fix the surmounting problems facing the U.S today not what church he goes to or how many times he prays every day. You say that religion is the lense by which people view the world, if true I sure dont want a president who has a belief of some celestial dictator in the sky I want a president with sense of reality which religion is not a reality its man made superstition. We have a constitution to guide us on making political decisions and the fact that you even suggest that you want a president to be making decisions in office based on his religion is a terrifying thought we are not a theocracy. Faith should not be a qualifier for the presidency infact those without it should be considered all the more. I'm glad to see the first attempt at a pro-religion piece this year was such a half-hearted attempt to prove a scary truth of the dangers of people of faith
