Hey, The Daily: Write about something we care about. And, please, don't mess up the facts this time.
UOSA doesn't really have a reputation one way or the other. But EVERYONE knows how sad the daily is.

Looks to me like the daily writer showed up to the meeting and no one was there! Boo hoo.
The only students this remotely affects are those who will be appointed to the parking appeals board. And honestly, they probably don't care that it is delayed a week.
The Daily writer included the stipends of the Student Congress leaders to make it appear that they are getting paid for not doing any work. That is what is transparent; and doesn't hold any truth whatsoever. If the Congress leaders were to get paid $8/hr for all of the work they do in a month, they would make well above their stipends.
The meeting was cancelled because there wouldn't be enough people to make quorum. That isn't the fault of the chair, so don't make it seem like it's his fault.
My physics professor (Today!) said it best:
"If you haven't figured it out by now, the newspaper writers around here are a bunch of journalism students trying to stretch little stories into big news."
Bottom line, don't put this crap on the front page. Students don't care about this kind of stuff.

To follow up, the HCSA resolution and the Student Congress resolution both passed as planned.

The Student Congress Problems and Projects committee will see a resolution encouraging H&F to put condom dispensers back in the basements of the dorms this Sunday, and it will likely be heard in Student Congress on Tuesday, Feb 23, at 7PM in Adams 150.
And I'm pretty certain that HCSA will pass a similar resolution on Monday night (Feb 22) at their meeting.
These are resolutions, basically just letting H&F know what the students want. It will then be up to them to do what they want.

John Jennings yielded the chair to Joshua Kalfas so he could debate. Josh is the ConAd committee chair. Jonathan Vann served as secretary.

The majority of students support a smoking ban. A strong majority support more smoking restrictions. UOSA has told Boren this for years.
In 2010, Boren needed UOSA, faculty, and staff to support the smoking ban. UOSA was the only one willing to pass a resolution supporting a smoking ban, so that wasn't enough for Boren at the time, and it lost some momentum.
I think that UOSA, our representative government, did exactly what they should. A quiet voice is still a voice. It took a few years, but UOSA's voice has been heard.
There is a fine line to tread when the majority (student body) is allowed to make policy for the minority (faculty, staff). There is a fine line to tread when the majority (non-smokers) is allowed to make policy for the minority (smokers). We'll see how it turns out.
