Mr Malone, there are so many things wrong with your column and I am happy to see the comments reflect that people understand your faulty logic.

I call myself a supporter of human rights AND of a woman's right to choose WHEN, WHERE, HOW and IF to have children. There is no double standard for me. None at all.

If you care about human rights why wouldn't you want to give women to right to control their own bodies. You wouldn't want women to be forced to have abortions would you? So why force them to have children? Oh wait...you wouldn't, you would force them to seek unsafe illegal abortions from which they might die or be seriously injured and maimed... Yes, it seem like you are all about human rights Mr. Malone - and your notion of "human" apparently does not include women.

The difference is that not everyone will/can/ever has agreed on when human life begins. If I believe that human life begins at viability, then I don't feel that an abortion at 10 weeks is killing. However, someone else may believe that human life begins at conception, therefore believing that abortion is killing. I would never attempt to debate this, since religions, philosophers, and even the medical community have not been able to "agree" on this.

Therefore, I respect everyone's right to CHOSE for THEMSELVES based on their own belief. I do not however, respect those who try to control women's bodies and treat women like property by legislating what they can and cannot do with their own bodies. Period.

I'm fail to see how forcing a woman to view an ultrasound will assist us in ending war, protecting the environment, and stabalizing the economy.

I understand that you have deeply held beliefs on the issue of abortion. Yet, so do many other people, some in different ways. You are allowed the choice to do what you want/need with your body. Should others be granted this as well? The right to privacy includes the private medical choice a woman makes between her and her doctor. This is not a choice for anyone other than the woman.

Controling women's bodies will not reduce the need for abortion. Comprehensive sex education and access to birth control is a good place to start. Reducing unintended pregnancies reduces abortion. Restrictions do not.
