Translation:

"I'm sorry...I did not realize that when you oversee a journalistic medium, especially in an educational institution full of a variety of students, people would be offended. I just didn't know. I have done a bad job because I offended some people and that's bad."

So will you be working again next year? I'd really like to read a paper that feels good and never has anything to say should it counteract with anyone's emotions.

Seriously? Trying hard NOT to offend people was the WORST THING YOU DID at this job. Half the reason people griped so much about their hurt feelings was because they knew the Daily is not a newspaper, but an emotional playground where the whims of political correctness are juggled with authority.
Your job is not to make any of us feel good. Your job is to convey the ideas of all kinds of people. Your job is to inform us, challenge us, and brings thoughts and news to our attention. Half the information out there is "controversial" or "offensive". I say if someone isn't complaining to you about their feelings you're doing it wrong.
Remember that the people complaining to you about how disrespectful that article was are not people concerned with what the article actually has to say. They are concerned with their own comfort, and they are the only people to whom you're apologizing.

Surely there is a better way to say that our representatives shouldn't be so old than to say, "I’m pretty sure we’re all in agreement that once you’re past the age of 50, you don’t really serve a purpose in general, much less on Capitol Hill."

Old people rock dude. They're full of wisdom and experience. Sure, it isn't best that they are representing the wrong generations, but don't try to phase out old people as being useless.

...whippersnapper.

This insight is impenetrable. Bravo.

Marijuana can be smoked responsibly by knowing its source. Like buying any other goods off the common market, it is the faults of both the consumer and the legislative policies equally. The fallacy of one does not relieve the other of its guilt.
It seems the reasonable thing is to choose not to smoke unless you know where it is coming from. If you get your pot from California, blame legislation all you want; you're not adding to the problem.
If you just smoke when and how you can, don't speak of the problems with legislation unless you have first reflected upon yourself.

soonerboomers,
No, no they can't. The only serious content you will see on this newspaper again is what can manage to get through the Daily's dishonest filters of political correctness, self protection, and comfortable non-offense. Don't expect to be challenged by your school newspaper anymore.
