I wouldn't bet on that, the reality is humanity can little afford to remain dependent on fossil fuels for the next 20 -30 years. Global warming and air pollution are already reaching critical levels around the world. If a Change doesn't come about soon there may not be a way to return the earth to livable conditions. Instead of trying to ride a dying horse into the next century, i feel that petroleum engineers need to help the world into the next fuel source and maintain petroleum for its other uses. ie: the manufacturing of petroleum and petrol based products. Yes we still need petroleum engineers and no the oil will not stop flowing, but as engineers we have an ethical and moral obligation to the people of the world first and our employers second. Don't worry about the oil company firing you or closing down reach for the next industrial revolution and you'll survive. We are engineers, we are inovators, creators, and inventors. The world thrives on our ability to adapt and improve technology, and if the companies shut down then we will build new companies.
